Description

This one came out of a very specific, very real problem: my husband’s parents live an hour away, my parents live two and a half hours away, and every major holiday, I end up mentally juggling two gift lists, two sets of logistics, and a schedule that changes depending on which holiday, which year, and whose turn it is to host. I was doing this in my head, or half in a notes app, every single time, and eventually I made a page so I’d stop.

The Family Celebration Planner is built around a genuinely common holiday problem: when family means more than one household, “just remembering everything” stops being a real plan. This page turns the two things that actually cause holiday stress — gifts and timing — into something you can see on paper instead of holding in your head.

The Gift Plan

The page has two side-by-side gift planning blocks, because most families with this problem have exactly that: two sides to think about. Each block has room to write who the gifts are for, what you’re giving them, who’s responsible for delivering them, and a checkbox once it’s actually done. If you’ve ever bought the same gift twice, or realized on the day of that nobody actually picked up your mother-in-law’s present, this section is built specifically to stop that.

The Day Schedule

Underneath the gift plan is a simple schedule grid: time, where, who’s going, and notes. This is the part that handles the actual choreography of a split holiday — who’s at which house at what time, who’s bringing the food, when everyone’s supposed to reconvene. It’s deliberately simple, because on the day itself, you don’t want to be interpreting a complicated system. You want to glance at a page and know where you’re supposed to be in twenty minutes.

Table / Menu Plan and Don’t Forget

The bottom third of the page covers the meal itself, a dish-by-dish list of who’s bringing what, with a checkbox for each, plus a short “Don’t Forget” section for the small last-minute things that always seem to get left behind (the charger, the extra folding chairs, the gift you left on the counter).

Why One Page, Not a Whole Planner

I considered making this a multi-page system and decided against it. The whole point is that you can see everything — gifts, schedule, food, reminders — in one glance, without flipping between sections. A holiday morning is not the time to be searching through a binder.

Who This Is For

This page is built for exactly the situation more families have than anyone talks about: divorced or blended families splitting a holiday, couples managing two sets of in-laws, or any family where “the holiday” actually means several smaller gatherings stitched together into one day. If your holiday involves more than one household and more than one gift list, this page was made with your specific headache in mind.

What’s Included

  • One printable page, in A4 and A5
  • The A5 version is a front-and-back layout of the same design, with hole punches already placed to fit straight into an A5 ring or disc binder
  • Two gift-planning blocks for two households or gift-giving groups
  • A time-based day schedule
  • A table/menu planning checklist
  • A “Don’t Forget” section for last-minute items

This isn’t a generic planner page with the word “family” added to the title. It’s built around the actual mechanics of a holiday that has more than one moving part, because if your holidays only ever involved one household, one gift list, and one dinner table, you probably wouldn’t need it.

I actually designed this page around my own Mid-Autumn Festival planning, you can read the full story in How My Family Celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival in China, where this exact planner made an appearance.

Pairs well with: the Mid-Autumn Festival Memories Page for recording how the day actually went once it’s over, or The Holidays Organizer if you want this alongside the rest of the system.
